The Lake Watch Philosophy

Lake Watch takes a proactive approach to protecting and enhancing the water quality of Lake Martin by working with governmental and non-governmental organizations within the Tallapoosa River basin and throughout the state. A vital element of this approach is to maintain an extensive water quality monitoring program in the watershed to establish a baseline of trend data that will help address future threats to the lake.

as the cleanest lake in Alabama.

With over 700 miles of shoreline and more than 40,000 surface acres, Lake Martin is rated as the cleanest and most beautiful lake in Alabama. Lake Watch is dedicated to preserving and improving the water quality of Lake Martin and surrounding waters.

Lake Watch was formed in 1991 as an all-volunteer non-profit organization in response to citizen concerns about point-source pollution that posed an ecological threat to Lake Martin.
